THE BREEDS AND SELECTED GENOTYPES OF PIGS

The breeds and selected genotypes of pigs:  indivdual production records can be monitored from the post-weaning phase until slaughter.

Available pigs include modern pig breeds and Chinese Meishan pigs, and crossbreds between these breeds. The installation also provides access to pig lines that have been divergently selected for residual feed intake, an indicator of feed efficiency. These breeds and lines can be housed in the conventional facility of Le Magneraud or in a newly-build facility for organic farming. Due to planned programs, the latter facility will not be available for activities before 2024. The breeding capacity of the installation of INRA-GenESI is 250 sows and 800 fattening pigs. The installation has recently been renovated to account for (future) regulation aspects for group-housing and welfare, and to implement automatic devices for phenotyping.
